What we do > Foodbank

The Foodbank Ministry exists to help those in our community who are going hungry by providing access to the basic needs that most of us take for granted.

Every day people in the UK go hungry for reasons ranging from redundancy to receiving an unexpected bill on a low income. At Oasis Church and thanks to Tony who oversees this work on behalf of the church, we are able to provide access to a nationally recognised trust which exists to provide food for anyone in this position. Swansea Foodbank is part of The Trussell Trust Foodbank network working to help those in need locally. The charity is non-judgemental and inclusive, providing assistance to people of all backgrounds and all faiths (or none) who are found to be in genuine need. The Foodbank provides a minimum of three days emergency food and support to people experiencing crisis in Swansea.

God says in The Bible (Proverbs 14v31) "Whoever oppresses the poor shows contempt for their Maker, but whoever is kind to the needy honours God". We believe that showing kindness to those in need is one of the ways we respond to God who has met our biggest need by taking our sin laying it on Jesus at the cross in our place.

At the Foodbank individuals or families will be met by trained volunteers who will sit down to discuss the situation and provide a food parcel appropriate for the need. Volunteers meet clients over free refreshments and are able to signpost people to agencies able to solve the longer-term problem.
