The first time Oasis Church met was in January 2008. A core team of six people met together in the living room of a house in Gowerton where we studied The Bible together, prayed, clarified our theology and developed the vision of Oasis Church. By March 2008, we moved to the local Scout Hall where we had our first public meeting; 11 adults and two children!
Although we were young and inexperienced in Church Planting, the Lord was very clearly with us and we knew his presence. The first book of The Bible we preached through at this time was Ruth; we saw that the Lord was in control of everything and that he is a God who redeems.
After four months at the Scout Hall, we ventured to the local Conservative Club to have a carvery lunch and to our surprise realised that it had been brilliantly renovated, easily becoming the best venue in the village. So in August 2008 we moved there and remained in that premises for four years! In order to use this venue we had to meet on a Saturday rather than a Sunday. This was a bold move and took some getting used to, but we found nothing Biblical to stand in our way, and God blessed us richly as a church through meeting weekly in this unconventional venue.
In Feb 2012 we decided that we would venture out and change the venue where we met for public worship. We decided to rent St John’s Church Hall which was less than 100m from the Conservative Club. We were in this venue for 6 years during which time we grew steadily. We saw people come to faith and also some existing Christians joined our fellowship. In 2015 we released Steve to plant another church in Swansea (Hope Church) and in July 2018 these churches came together under the name of Oasis Church Swansea. Prior to this Oasis was known as ‘Oasis Church Gowerton’. Oasis currently meets in Tabernacle Church Gorseinon which is a facility we rent from the Presbyterian Church of Wales. Over the short history of the church we have celebrated numerous weddings, welcomed many new babies and held over 30 baptisms.
